Talking dog voice: give your pet a voice in videos
Videos where a dog or cat “says” what it thinks are among the most shared pet clips: the dramatic husky, the polite cat, the puppy with big plans. The joke lives in the voice, and most people do not want to record it themselves.
This guide shows how to write a pet’s lines, choose a voice that fits the animal and voice the whole clip with SuperClonica, free online or offline.
Write what the pet is thinking
Watch the clip and write one short line per moment: the look at the treat, the sigh at the bath, the side-eye at the cat. Keep each line under ten words and let the picture do half the joke. Write it the way the voice should read it: “Is that… a BATH?” reads very differently from a plain question.
Match the voice to the animal
A big, serious dog suits a deep, slow voice; a tiny puppy suits a high cartoon or child voice; a cat often works best with a calm, slightly posh narrator. Valera the Gummy Bear is free and very cartoonish, and the catalog has deep voices, narrators and characters. Hear each one free on its page with a line of 30 to 100 characters, no account needed.
Voice the whole clip
For a few lines, type each one on the voice page and download it. For a series of videos, install the free engine with python -m pip install superclonica-cpu and run, for example, superclonica --text-file pet.txt --voice voice.json --lang en --normalize --output pet.wav. Use the same voice file and seed for every episode so your pet always sounds like itself, and --normalize so every line has the same loudness.
Put it on the video
Place each line where the pet reacts, a moment after the movement so the voice seems to answer it. Lower the original sound a little but keep the barks and meows; they sell the joke. Subtitles help, since many people watch with the sound off.
Recordable talking buttons
Some owners teach pets recordable sound buttons. A button records through its own microphone, so if you want the same clear voice on every button, play each word from a speaker held close to the button while it records. Use the same voice and volume for every word. The engine speaks 31 languages; Chinese is not supported yet.
