AI voice cues for workouts and fitness apps

A good workout voice tells you exactly what to do while you are out of breath: go, rest, ten seconds left, keep your back straight. Whether you build an interval timer app, record a home workout video or coach a class, the cues need to be short, clear and always the same.

SuperClonica turns your cue list into audio files with natural voices, free to test online and offline on your own computer. This guide shows which cues a workout needs, how to write them and how to voice a whole set in several languages.

Cues a workout needs

Timing cues should be one to four words; save longer sentences for the rest periods.

  • Start and stop: “Go!”, “Rest.”, “Switch sides.”
  • Countdowns: “Three. Two. One.” and “Ten seconds left.”
  • Exercise names, so nobody has to look at the screen.
  • Short form tips and a little motivation at the halfway point.

Test a cue free online

On the page of any voice, type a cue or a short tip, 30 to 100 characters, choose the language and press Voice it. In a few seconds you hear whether the voice has the right energy and can download it, with no account.

Write cues for tired ears

Try a slightly higher --speed for timing cues and the default for explanations.

  • Write numbers as words: “ten seconds”, not “10 s”.
  • Keep the wording identical every time, so users learn the cues.
  • Use exclamation marks for energy, full stops for calm instructions.
  • Leave a beat after a countdown: it lands better than speaking straight into the exercise.

Voice the whole set offline

Install the free SuperClonica engine: python -m pip install superclonica-cpu. Voice each cue with one command, for example superclonica --text "Rest. Breathe in. Next round in ten seconds." --voice F3 --lang en --normalize --output cue_rest.ogg, or voice the whole list from a spreadsheet in one loop. --normalize keeps every cue at the same loudness, −18 LUFS, so no cue jumps out over the music, and the same voice reads the same set in up to 31 languages. OGG and MP3 files are small enough to ship inside an app.

Choose the voice

Energetic Katya is a lively young female voice and Energetic Narrator a mid-low male voice with clear emphasis; both were recorded in Russian, so test them in your language. The ten stock voices of the model, M1 to M5 and F1 to F5, are free and neutral. For a branded app or a coach’s own voice, train a voice from a recording the coach agreed to, or order it on the exchange; keep character voices for personal playlists.
