Escape room voices for briefings, hints and countdowns
An escape room lives on its audio: the briefing that sets the story, the hint that saves a stuck team, the voice that says ten minutes are left. Recording all of it with a voice actor is expensive, and every new hint or language means another session.
SuperClonica turns your script into audio files with natural voices, free to test online and offline on your own computer. This guide shows which lines a room needs, how to write them and how to voice and update the whole set.
The lines every room needs
Keep every line in its own file, named by puzzle and level, so your game master software can play it with one click.
- A briefing: the story, the goal and the rules in under a minute.
- Hints: two or three levels per puzzle, from a nudge to the answer.
- Countdown warnings: thirty, ten and one minute left.
- An ending for success and one for time running out.
Test a line free online
On the page of any voice, type a line of 30 to 100 characters, choose the language and press Voice it. In a few seconds you can hear whether the voice fits your room and download the recording, with no account.
Write lines players remember
Add reverb, radio crackle or a low drone in an audio editor to place the voice inside your story.
- Speak in the voice of the story: a scientist, a captain, a ghost.
- Short sentences; players are talking over each other.
- Hints that point, not tell: “Have you looked at the clock?” before “The code is the time on the clock.”
- Write numbers and codes the way they should be heard, and check them by ear.
Voice the whole room offline
Install the free SuperClonica engine: python -m pip install superclonica-cpu. Voice each line with one command, for example superclonica --text "Have you looked at the clock? Time is not just running out here." --voice M4 --lang en --normalize --output hint_03.mp3. --normalize keeps every file at the same loudness, −18 LUFS, so a hint is never suddenly louder than the briefing, and the same voice reads the same lines in up to 31 languages for tourists. When you change a puzzle, edit one line and voice it again in minutes.
Original voices for a business
Character voices from the catalog are fan-made and not endorsed by the rights holders, so do not use them in a paid room. Use the ten stock voices of the model, M1 to M5 and F1 to F5, which come with the free engine, or create an original voice for your room: record a performer who agreed, train the voice in the studio on a computer with an NVIDIA graphics card, or order it on the exchange.
