An offline alternative to ElevenLabs
ElevenLabs is a cloud voice platform: you use it in the browser or through its API, and the speech is generated on their side. SuperClonica is the opposite setup. You download a voice file and generate speech on your own computer, with or without internet.
The two are not interchangeable, and for many projects ElevenLabs remains the easier choice. This page sets out the real differences so you can decide which one fits.
Cloud text-to-speech vs a voice file on your computer
ElevenLabs offers a no-code web app and a REST API with official Python and TypeScript SDKs. Organizations can also run it in their own cloud through private deployments. Either way, synthesis is a service you call.
With SuperClonica you get a Supertonic 3 voice as one JSON file. You install the engine, download the base model once (about 400 MB), and every request after that runs locally on your CPU or GPU.
Privacy: where your text goes
With a cloud TTS service, every script, chat message or document you voice is sent to the provider's servers and handled under its terms. For marketing copy that is rarely a problem. For medical notes, internal documents or unreleased game dialogue it can be.
Local synthesis sends the text nowhere. SuperClonica's servers never see what you voice; they handle only your account, purchases and voice downloads. You sign in with GitHub and pay in cryptocurrency.
Latency and working without internet
A cloud request adds a network round trip and depends on the service being reachable. A local engine has neither. By our estimate SuperClonica generates speech 6.4–9.7× faster than real time on a desktop 8-core CPU, so a 10-second line is ready in about 1.0–1.6 seconds, on a plane or inside a closed network too.
This also lets you build speech into a product: a game that voices NPC lines on the player's machine, or a web app that runs the model in the browser through ONNX Runtime Web.
Subscription vs owning a voice
ElevenLabs is sold as monthly or yearly subscriptions, and your usage is counted against the plan.
On SuperClonica you buy a voice once, at the price its author set in US dollars, and some voices are free. The file stays in your library and nobody counts characters: how much you generate depends only on your hardware. A purchased voice is for your own projects and may not be resold or republished.
Where ElevenLabs is the better choice
ElevenLabs is ahead in several areas, and it is worth being clear about them.
- Languages: ElevenLabs models cover dozens of languages, Mandarin Chinese among them. Supertonic 3 has 31 and no Chinese yet.
- Instant voices: clone a voice from a recording or design one from a text description right in the browser. On SuperClonica a custom voice has to be trained or commissioned.
- No setup: no Python, no model download, nothing running on your hardware.
- A broader platform: voice agents and other audio tools in the same account.
When SuperClonica fits better
SuperClonica makes more sense when one of these applies.
- The text should not leave your device or network.
- You generate large volumes and a usage meter would add up.
- You need speech offline, or inside an app or game you ship.
- You want to keep the voice as a file, independent of a subscription.
