HeyGen voice alternative: when you only need the voiceover
HeyGen is built around AI avatars and video translation, and its plans include a set number of hours of text to speech. Many people pay for it mainly for the voice, then run into the hour limit or the free plan’s watermark.
This guide sums up what HeyGen offers for voice according to its pricing page, and how to make the voiceover alone for free on your own computer, or in the cloud for a fraction of the price, with SuperClonica.
What HeyGen includes for voice
On its pricing page in October 2026, the free plan gives 3 watermarked videos a month, up to 1 minute each, and 1 voice clone. Creator costs $29 a month and includes HeyGen Voice with up to 10 hours of text to speech; Pro costs $49 with more than 16 hours. Business is $149 a month plus $20 per extra seat. Every plan lists a library of more than 1,000 AI voices.
What HeyGen does that SuperClonica does not
HeyGen makes talking avatar videos, translates videos into more than 175 languages and dialects on paid plans and syncs the avatar’s lips. SuperClonica does none of that: it turns text into speech. If you need an on-screen presenter, keep HeyGen; if you need narration for slides, screen recordings, faceless videos or podcasts, the voice is all you need.
Voiceover offline for free
Install the free SuperClonica engine with python -m pip install superclonica-cpu, save your script as a text file and run superclonica --text-file script.txt --voice narrator.json --lang en --normalize --output voiceover.wav. It runs offline on an ordinary processor with no character limit and no hourly cap, in 31 languages, and --normalize keeps every video at the same loudness. Drop the WAV into any editor.
Voiceover in the cloud
If you prefer an API, the SuperClonica speech API takes up to 20,000 characters per request. The $5 Starter plan gives up to 216 hours of audio a month, and a free key gives 3 minutes a day to try. Through the API your text goes to our servers; keep private scripts on your own machine.
Pick a voice or use your own
Hear catalog voices free on their pages: paste 30 to 100 characters, no account needed. There are narrators, announcers and characters, and ten stock voices, M1 to M5 and F1 to F5, come with the engine. For your own voice, record a clean phrase of 5 to 10 seconds and train it in the studio; training on your own NVIDIA graphics card is free.
