An alternative to Typecast without download credits
Typecast is a popular online studio of AI voices and characters with a friendly editor and a mobile app. Generating and listening is unlimited, but every download spends credits: the free plan has about five minutes in total and requires attribution, and paid plans add a monthly allowance and a commercial license.
SuperClonica works differently: a free engine that voices any amount of text on your own computer, voices you buy once, and a free online test. This guide compares them honestly and says when Typecast is the better pick.
Typecast in short
For quick videos made in a browser or on a phone, with emotion presets and no setup, Typecast is convenient.
- An online studio and a mobile app with AI voices and characters.
- Credits are spent only when you download audio; the free plan has about five minutes in total, with trial voices and required attribution.
- Paid plans add monthly credits, all voices, a commercial license and voice cloning slots.
- Everything runs in the cloud, so you need an account and an internet connection.
Try a voice free
On the page of any voice, type a line of 30 to 100 characters, choose the language and press Voice it. In a few seconds you can listen and download the recording, with no account and no credits.
What SuperClonica does differently
Your scripts never leave your computer, which matters for client work and unreleased projects.
- No credits: the engine voices as many hours as you like on your own computer, offline.
- Voices are bought once and stay yours to use on your computer; the ten stock voices are free.
- More than 170 catalog voices, from narrators to anime, game and cartoon characters, plus your own voice trained from a clean recording.
- 31 languages; Chinese is not among them.
A whole script offline
Install the free engine once, python -m pip install superclonica-cpu, save the script as a text file and voice it with one command: superclonica --text-file script.txt --voice narrator.json --lang en --output voice.mp3. The engine splits long texts at natural pauses and joins them into one file; an hour of audio takes several minutes on an ordinary desktop processor. The same text, voice and seed always give the same take, so a corrected sentence matches the rest.
Which one to choose
Choose Typecast when you want to work in a browser or on a phone, with emotion presets and a polished editor, and a monthly allowance is enough. Choose SuperClonica when you voice a lot, want no monthly limit, need texts to stay private, or want character voices and a voice of your own that keep working offline.
