Manga and manhwa dub voices with AI
Comic dubs and recap videos turn still panels into a story you can listen to: a narrator for the plot, a different voice for each character, timed to the panels on screen. Casting and recording a voice actor per character is out of reach for most channels.
SuperClonica has anime-style character voices and calm narrators, a free online test and a free engine that voices a whole chapter from a script on your own computer. This guide shows how to cast, script and voice a dub, and where the rights question comes in.
Cast the voices
Give every character one voice and one seed for the whole series, so listeners recognize them.
- Anime Girl, Anime Heroine and Senpaika: high, lively voices for heroines and friends.
- Naruto Uzumaki, Levi Ackerman and Light Yagami: fan voices of famous characters, for parody and fan dubs.
- Conversational Narrator: a neutral narrator for recaps between dialogue.
- Most of these voices were recorded in Russian; test them in your language before you cast.
Test a line free online
On the page of any voice, type a line from your chapter, 30 to 100 characters, choose the language and press Voice it. In a few seconds you hear whether the voice fits the character, with no account.
Script the chapter
Keep each line short; a long speech bubble often reads better as two lines.
- A table with one row per bubble: panel number, character, voice and line.
- Narration in its own rows: short sentences that tell what the panels show.
- Sound effects written as words only if you want them spoken; otherwise add them in the editor.
- Exclamation marks and ellipses where the art shows shouting or hesitation.
Voice the whole chapter offline
Install the free SuperClonica engine with python -m pip install superclonica-cpu. In Python, after import csv, from superclonica import Superclonica and tts = Superclonica(), one loop voices a whole chapter, each line with its character’s voice file: for row in csv.DictReader(open("chapter_12.csv", encoding="utf-8")): audio, rate = tts.synthesize(row["line"], voice=row["voice"], lang="en", seed=3); tts.save(row["panel"] + ".wav", audio). Line the files up with the panels in your video editor; the same seed gives the same delivery if you re-voice a line later.
Whose comic is it
The art and story belong to their authors and publishers. Dub your own comics, ones whose authors allow it, or chapters you have permission to use; recap and dub channels that use scans without permission often face takedowns. Character voices are fan-made and not endorsed by the rights holders, so keep them for fan works and parody, and say that the voices are generated.
