GUIDE

Text to speech for dyslexia and study

For many people with dyslexia, hearing a text is easier than reading it alone: a chapter can be followed by ear, notes reviewed on a walk, an essay checked by listening to it. A natural voice makes long listening less tiring than the robotic voices many still associate with text to speech.

The free SuperClonica engine turns study texts into audio files on your own computer, offline and at a speed that suits you. This guide shows how, and is honest about what it does not do.

How listening helps

Text to speech does not replace support from teachers or specialists; it is one more tool.

  • Hearing a text while following it on the page.
  • Reviewing notes and textbook chapters by ear.
  • Checking your own writing by listening to it.
  • Less reading fatigue on long assignments.

Find a voice that is easy to follow

On the page of any voice, paste a sentence from a textbook, 30 to 100 characters, choose the language and press Voice it. In a few seconds you hear whether the voice is easy to follow, with no account.

Turn study texts into audio

A slower speed such as 0.9 helps with dense texts; the engine accepts speeds from 0.7 to 2.0, with 1.05 by default.

  • Copy the text from your document into a plain text file, one file per chapter.
  • Install the free engine once: python -m pip install superclonica-cpu.
  • Voice a chapter with one command: superclonica --text-file chapter.txt --voice F2 --lang en --speed 0.9 --output chapter.mp3.
  • Copy the MP3 files to your phone and listen anywhere.

What SuperClonica is not

SuperClonica is not a screen reader, and it does not highlight words as they are read. To read along on screen, use the read-aloud features built into browsers, operating systems and office apps; use SuperClonica when you want audio files of whole texts that you can listen to anywhere, offline, in a natural voice.

Private and free

The engine runs on your own computer, so assignments, notes and personal documents never leave it, and it needs no account. The engine and the ten stock voices of the model are free, with no character limit, and an ordinary processor is enough.
