Clipchamp text to speech: voices that stand out

Clipchamp, Microsoft’s video editor that comes with Windows 11, has its own text to speech: type a line, pick a voice, and it lands on the timeline. It is quick and free, and that is exactly why the same Microsoft voices narrate so many videos.

SuperClonica adds voices Clipchamp does not have, from calm narrators to game, anime and cartoon characters, free to try online. This guide shows when the built-in voices are enough, how to bring a SuperClonica voice into a Clipchamp project and how to voice whole scripts offline.

When Clipchamp’s own voices are enough

For a quick tutorial or a school project, the built-in voices are the simplest choice; reach for another voice when the video should sound like yours alone.

  • Clipchamp’s text to speech is built into the editor and offers many voices and languages, Chinese among them.
  • The line goes straight onto the timeline, next to your captions and clips.
  • The voices are the same ones every other Clipchamp user can pick.
  • Any other voice can be added as an ordinary audio file.

Try a character voice free

On the page of any voice, type a line of 30 to 100 characters, choose the language and press Voice it. In a few seconds you can listen and download the recording, with no account.

Add the voice to a Clipchamp project

For a script with several scenes, make one file per scene so each one is easy to move.

  • Voice the line on the voice page and download the recording.
  • In Clipchamp, import the file or drag it into the window, then drag it onto the timeline under the video.
  • Microsoft recommends MP3, WAV and OGG: they are added without a conversion step.
  • Trim, split and fade it like any other sound, and add auto subtitles if you need them.

Whole scripts offline

For longer scripts, buy the voice once, download its file and install the free SuperClonica engine: python -m pip install superclonica-cpu. Save each scene as a text file and voice it with one command: superclonica --text-file scene01.txt --voice narrator.json --lang en --normalize --output scene01.mp3. The engine writes MP3, WAV or OGG, splits long texts at natural pauses, keeps every scene at the same loudness with --normalize and runs offline on an ordinary processor, with no character limit.

Voices and rights

Character voices in the catalog are fan-made and not endorsed by the rights holders: use them for parody and fan videos within the SuperClonica terms. For brand or monetized content, use the ten stock voices of the model or a voice trained from a speaker who agreed. Never make a voice that imitates a real person say things they did not say.
