Filmora text to speech: steps, credits and a free alternative
Wondershare Filmora can turn a title or subtitle into a voiceover right on the timeline. It is quick for a few lines, but every generation costs AI credits, so long narration adds up.
This guide shows the steps in Filmora, what text to speech costs there according to Wondershare, and how to voice a whole script offline for free with SuperClonica and drop the file into your Filmora project.
Text to speech in Filmora, step by step
According to Wondershare, select the subtitle or text on the timeline and click Text to Speech in the editing panel, or right-click the text and choose it from the menu. Choose the language that matches your text, pick a voice, preview the samples and click Generate; the audio appears on the timeline. Speech speed can be adjusted in the advanced settings.
What it costs
Filmora’s AI credit rules list text to speech at 1 credit per 10 characters and AI voice cloning at 100 credits per use. Credits that come with a subscription are valid for 30 days, credits from packs for one year. A 1,000-character script is about 100 credits, so check your balance before voicing a long video.
Tips for a clean result
Wondershare advises matching the voice language to the text, since English text with a Spanish voice sounds unnatural, and generating in small segments so you can check each one. Write numbers and abbreviations the way they should be heard.
Voice the whole script offline for free
For long narration, voice the script outside Filmora. Install the free SuperClonica engine with python -m pip install superclonica-cpu, save the script as a text file and run superclonica --text-file script.txt --voice narrator.json --lang en --normalize --output narration.wav. It runs offline on an ordinary processor with no character limit, splits long texts at natural pauses, and --normalize keeps every video at the same loudness. Then import the WAV into Filmora’s media library and drag it onto the timeline.
Character voices and your own voice
Before you voice a whole video, hear catalog voices free on their pages: paste 30 to 100 characters, with no account. Narrators, announcers and character voices are there, and ten stock voices, M1 to M5 and F1 to F5, come with the engine. You can also train your own voice in the studio from a clean 5 to 10 second recording; training on your own NVIDIA graphics card is free.
