VEED text to speech: steps, limits and a free alternative
VEED is a popular online video editor, and its AI Voice turns a script into a voiceover right in the browser. It is handy, but every generation uses AI credits, and the free plan allows only a few minutes a month.
This guide shows how text to speech works in VEED according to its help center, what the limits are, and how to voice long scripts for free on your own computer with SuperClonica, then add them to your VEED project.
Text to speech in VEED, step by step
According to VEED’s help center, open your project, select a clip and click AI Tools in the left sidebar, then AI Voice; or open the Audio panel and click AI Voice. Choose the language, then a voice under Actors, or your own under Voice Clone, and generate. The clip appears on the timeline; click Export to download the video, and use Download MP3 to save the audio on its own.
Limits to know
VEED says text to speech uses AI credits for each generation on every plan, with at most 5,000 characters per generation, so longer scripts are voiced in sections. The free plan allows up to 10 minutes a month, in the regions where free plans have credits; paid plans allow 4, 144 or 960 hours a year depending on the plan. Only one voice clone can be created per workspace. VEED offers more than 50 languages.
Voice long scripts offline for free
For courses, explainers and long videos, voice the script on your own computer. Install the free SuperClonica engine with python -m pip install superclonica-cpu, save the script as a text file and run superclonica --text-file script.txt --voice narrator.json --lang en --normalize --output voiceover.mp3. It runs offline on an ordinary processor with no character limit and no monthly cap, and --normalize keeps every file at the same loudness. Then upload the MP3 to your VEED project like any other audio.
Voices VEED does not have
Hear catalog voices free on their pages: paste 30 to 100 characters, with no account, and download the line. There are narrators, announcers, game and cartoon characters, and ten stock voices, M1 to M5 and F1 to F5, come with the engine. For your own voice, train it once in the studio from a clean 5 to 10 second recording; training on your own NVIDIA graphics card is free.
Voice in the cloud
If you prefer an API to a local engine, the SuperClonica speech API takes up to 20,000 characters per request. A free key gives 3 minutes a day, and the $5 Starter plan up to 216 hours of audio a month. Through the API your text goes to our servers; keep private scripts on your own machine.
