A FakeYou alternative: character voices that run offline
FakeYou is a well-known site for character text to speech with a very large library of community-made voices, generated on its servers. SuperClonica takes a different approach: a smaller, curated catalog of character voices for Supertonic 3, a free online test, and a free engine that runs the voices on your own computer.
This page compares the two honestly and shows how to make a character say your line with SuperClonica.
Two different approaches
Character voices in SuperClonica are fan-made and not endorsed by the rights holders; use them for fan works and parody.
- FakeYou: a large online library of community voices, used in the browser.
- SuperClonica: 189 voices, among them game, cartoon, anime, movie and meme characters, each with a demo and a description by its author.
- A SuperClonica voice is a JSON file you keep and run offline with the free engine.
- Every voice speaks the 31 languages of Supertonic 3; Chinese is not supported yet.
When FakeYou is the better choice
If you need a specific character that is not in the SuperClonica catalog, a library as large as FakeYou’s is more likely to have it. Browse both: the catalog search is the quickest way to check whether your character is here.
When SuperClonica fits better
Free character voices include Gollum, Valera the Gummy Bear, Trevor Philips, Dark Willow, Ciri and Brainrot.
- You want no queue: once you have the voice, the engine voices a line in about a second or two on a desktop processor.
- You voice many lines: there is no character limit and no per-line meter.
- You want the files: MP3, WAV, FLAC or OGG, saved on your computer.
- Your character is not in the catalog: order it on the exchange, or train it yourself from a recording you have the rights to.
Make a character say your line
On the page of any voice, type a line of 30 to 100 characters, choose the language and press Voice it; in a few seconds you can listen and download it, with no account. For many lines, buy the voice once, install the free engine with python -m pip install superclonica-cpu and run superclonica --text "Fly, you fools... to the kitchen." --voice character.json --lang en --output line.mp3.
What it costs
The online test, the engine and several voices are free. Other voices are bought once and stay yours as a file, with no subscription. Check FakeYou’s own site for its current free limits and plans before you compare.
