15.ai alternative: character voices after 15.ai and 15.dev
15.ai made character text to speech famous: type a line, pick a pony, a TF2 mercenary or GLaDOS, and hear it in seconds, for free. Many fan animations, memes and audio dramas were voiced that way, and many fans still search for it.
This guide sums up what happened to 15.ai and its sequel, and shows how to voice fan lines today with SuperClonica: fan-made character voices for Supertonic 3, a free online test and a free engine that runs on your own computer.
What happened to 15.ai
As of autumn 2026, neither site voices text, so fans need another tool.
- 15.ai launched on 2 March 2020 as a free, non-commercial web app by a developer known as 15.
- Its voices came from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, Team Fortress 2, Portal, SpongeBob SquarePants, Undertale and more.
- It went offline in September 2022 amid legal questions around AI and copyright, after the Voiceverse NFT controversy earlier that year.
- The sequel, 15.dev, opened on 18 May 2025 and was closed indefinitely on 28 May 2026.
Try a character voice free online
Open the page of a character voice such as Twilight Sparkle or SpongeBob, both recorded in English, type a line of 30 to 100 characters, choose the language and press Voice it. In a few seconds you can listen and download it, with no account and no queue.
What works differently here
Missing a character? Authors on the SuperClonica exchange train voices to order, and the studio trains a voice from a clean clip of 5 to 10 seconds that you have the right to use.
- You buy a voice once and download its file; it keeps working offline, even if a website goes down.
- The engine has no character limit, so a whole episode script is one command.
- Every voice speaks 31 languages; Chinese is not supported yet.
- There is no emotion menu: the delivery follows the voice and your punctuation, so write the line the way it should be said.
Long scripts offline
For an audio drama or a long fan script, install the free engine with python -m pip install superclonica-cpu, download the voice and run superclonica --text-file lines.txt --voice twilight.json --lang en --output lines.wav. Change --seed for another take of the same line, and voice each character as its own file to mix them in an editor. Everything runs on your computer, without a queue or a daily limit.
Fan work and fair play
Character voices in the catalog are fan-made and not endorsed by the rights holders or the original voice actors. Use them for fan works, parody and personal projects within the SuperClonica terms, say that the voice is AI-generated, and never make a character say hateful or misleading things. 15.ai’s own history shows why credit and consent matter.
