Lord of the Rings voice generator: Gollum and Saruman
Some voices from Middle-earth everyone recognizes: Gollum’s hissing whisper that argues with itself, and Saruman’s deep, commanding tone. Fans use them for memes, fan videos, tabletop sessions and jokes among friends.
The SuperClonica catalog has both as voices for the Supertonic 3 model, and Gollum is free. This guide shows how to test them online, how to write lines that sound right and how to voice whole scenes offline.
Middle-earth voices in the catalog
Both voices were recorded in English, so they sound most like themselves in English lines.
- Gollum: the famous whisper with growls, for scheming, sulking and arguing with himself. Free.
- Saruman: a deep, commanding voice for orders, speeches and grand villain monologues.
- For a fantasy crossover: Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer and Ciri (free) from the world of The Witcher.
Voice a line free online
On the page of a voice, type a line of 30 to 100 characters, choose the language and press Voice it. In a few seconds you can listen and download the recording. No account is needed, and Gollum costs nothing even offline.
Write lines that sound right
Extra letters such as a long “sss” can stretch the hiss, but check the result by ear.
- Gollum: short phrases, repetition, talking about himself as “we”, a sudden turn from whining to anger.
- Saruman: long, measured sentences, a calm start and a hard final order.
- Write your own lines rather than copying film dialogue: a new joke in a familiar voice works better anyway.
- Try several takes with different --seed numbers offline, or several attempts online, and keep the best.
Whole scenes offline
Download the free Gollum file (and Saruman after buying it) and install the free SuperClonica engine: python -m pip install superclonica-cpu. Voice a line with one command: superclonica --text "We wants the last cookie, yes we does. Nasty little thieves took it from us!" --voice gollum.json --lang en --output gollum.mp3. For a tabletop session, write the villain’s lines in a text file and voice them all at once with --text-file. It runs offline on an ordinary processor, with no character limit.
Fan voices, used fairly
These character voices are fan-made and not endorsed by the Tolkien Estate, the film makers or the actors. Use them for memes, fan projects, games with friends and parody within the SuperClonica terms. Never present a clip as something an actor really said, and never use the voices to deceive or harass real people.
