GUIDE

Sports commentator and ring announcer voice generator

A highlight video, a fantasy-league recap, a school sports day, an esports final or an amateur boxing night all sound better with a voice that introduces the players and calls the action. Hiring a commentator for a highlight reel is rarely worth it, and reading the calls yourself takes many takes.

SuperClonica has announcer, reporter and host voices, free to try online, and a free engine that voices every intro and result at the same loudness. This guide shows which voices fit, how to write calls that work, how to make them sound like an arena and why you should never fake a real commentator.

Voices for sports

The Smash announcer was recorded in English; the other voices were recorded in Russian and may keep a slight accent in other languages, so listen in your language first.

  • Super Smash Bros. 4/Ultimate Announcer: a professional announcer voice, recorded in English, for fighter intros and results.
  • Ringmaster: made for introducing participants and explaining the rules of the show.
  • Energetic Narrator and Reporter: clear emphasis for highlights, recaps and match reports.
  • Energetic Katya: a lively young female voice for a school sports day or an esports stream.
  • Earthshaker: very low and almost flat, for a heavy pre-match announcement.

Voice a call free online

On the page of any voice, type a call of 30 to 100 characters, for example “In the red corner, weighing in at 185 pounds, the challenger!”, choose the language and press Voice it. Digits are spelled out for you, so 185 is read as one hundred and eighty-five. In a few seconds you can listen and download the recording, with no account.

Write for commentary

Text to speech will not scream a thirty-second goal call like a live commentator: it reads with clear emphasis. Keep the calls short and let the crowd noise do the shouting.

  • Write scores the way a commentator says them: “three to one” or “three-nil”, not 3-1.
  • Short phrases keep the pace: “Silva. Across to Moreno. He shoots!”
  • Spell player and fighter names the way they should sound.
  • Introduce fighters the classic way: corner, record, weight, and the name last.

Make it sound like the arena

Put the voice over crowd noise with a little arena reverb, and compress it so it cuts through. For a whole tournament, every fighter intro and every result, install the free engine with python -m pip install superclonica-cpu and voice them one by one: superclonica --text "In the red corner, weighing in at 185 pounds, the challenger!" --voice M2 --lang en --normalize --output intro_01.wav. --normalize keeps every file at the same loudness, so no intro is quieter than the next. Play them from a laptop or a soundboard at a live event.

Real commentators and fair play

Do not imitate real commentators, ring announcers or athletes: their voices belong to them, and some famous announcer catchphrases are registered trademarks, so write your own. For a sponsored stream, a paid event or a channel that earns money, use the ten stock voices, M1 to M5 and F1 to F5, free under the OpenRAIL-M license, or your own voice trained in the SuperClonica studio. The Smash announcer is a fan-made voice for fan content.
