Clownfish Voice Changer or AI character voices: which one you need
Clownfish Voice Changer is a system-wide voice changer for Windows: it changes your microphone for every app that uses it, such as Discord, Steam, Skype, TeamSpeak and Mumble. SuperClonica works differently: you type a line and get a recording in a character voice, an announcer or your own trained voice.
This guide compares them honestly, using Clownfish’s own feature list, and shows when each one is the right tool.
What Clownfish does
According to its site, Clownfish runs on Windows Vista to 11 and has 14 voice effects: Alien, Atari, Clone, Mutation, Fast and Slow Mutation, Male, Female, Helium and Baby pitch, Radio, Robot, Silence and Custom pitch. It also has a Voice Assistant that turns typed text into speech with voices picked from a list, a music player, a sound player that plays sounds on a hotkey, and support for VST plugins.
When Clownfish is the right tool
Choose a real-time voice changer when you talk live: in a call, a match or a stream, with your own timing, laughs and reactions. Effects like Robot, Helium or Radio change how you sound, but you still sound like yourself under the effect; they do not turn you into a particular character.
When AI character voices work better
For lines prepared in advance, such as a meme, a stream alert, a soundboard, a video or a game, text to speech gives a different result: the line is spoken by a voice of its own, a game hero, a cartoon character, an announcer, with no need to act. Hear voices free on their pages with a line of 30 to 100 characters, no account needed, and download the recording.
Make a soundboard of lines offline
For many lines, buy a voice once, download its file and install the free engine with python -m pip install superclonica-cpu. Then voice each line: superclonica --text "Enemy spotted, fall back!" --voice voice.json --lang en --normalize --output line.wav. It runs offline on an ordinary processor, with no character limit; --normalize keeps every clip at the same loudness, ready for a soundboard or a hotkey sound player.
Use voices fairly
Whatever tool you use, do not pretend to be a real person and do not use another voice to deceive anyone. Character voices in the catalog are fan-made, for fan works, parody and personal projects; for a voice of your own, train it in the studio from a 5 to 10 second recording of your voice.
