# PDF to audio: convert a PDF to MP3 with natural voices Updated 2026-10-24 A PDF you would rather listen to than read: a report on the way to work, a study guide, a long article, your own book draft. Turning it into an MP3 takes two steps: getting clean text out of the PDF, then voicing it. The free SuperClonica engine does the second step offline, with natural neural voices and no length limit. This guide shows how to extract and clean the text, how to voice it to MP3 and what to keep in mind about scanned files and rights. ## What you need Clean text matters more than the voice: headers, page numbers and broken lines are read aloud too. - A PDF with real text inside: if you can select words, it has text. A scanned PDF needs OCR first. - The free SuperClonica engine and Python 3.10 or newer. - A voice: one of the ten built-in voices or a voice from the catalog. - No graphics card: an ordinary processor is enough. ## Hear a paragraph free online Before you convert a whole document, copy one paragraph and paste it on the page of any voice, 30 to 100 characters, choose the language and press Voice it. In a few seconds you hear how the document will sound, with no account. ## Get clean text out of the PDF Split a long book into one text file per chapter: chapters are easier to check and to listen to. - Select all, copy and paste into a plain text editor, then save as UTF-8 text. - Or extract it with Poppler on Linux or macOS: pdftotext book.pdf book.txt. - Remove running headers, footers and page numbers. - Join lines broken in the middle of sentences and words hyphenated at line ends. ## PDF to MP3 Install the engine once: python -m pip install superclonica-cpu. Then voice the text straight to MP3: superclonica --text-file book.txt --voice F2 --lang en --normalize --output book.mp3. Long texts are split at natural pauses and joined into one file; on an ordinary 8-core desktop processor an hour of audio takes several minutes. Use.wav instead of.mp3 if you plan to edit the audio. ## Rights and private documents The engine runs offline, so contracts, reports and medical papers never leave your computer.
