# Custom iRacing spotter pack: give your spotter a new voice

Updated 2026-10-31

iRacing lets you replace the spotter’s voice with a third-party pack: a folder of short audio files for calls like “Car left”, “Clear” and “Still there”. Instead of recording every call yourself, you can voice them with an AI voice, from a calm female spotter to a gruff old crew chief or your own trained voice.

This guide follows iRacing’s own instructions for spotter packs and shows how to make the files with the free SuperClonica engine.

## How a spotter pack is built

According to iRacing support, spotter packs live in the spotter directory, usually C:\Program Files (x86)\iRacing\Sound\SPCC. Each pack is its own folder, named with letters and numbers only, since symbols may not work. Inside are the.wav files and a spmsg.txt file that links each spotter message ID to its sound file. A pack can change the existing spotter messages, but it cannot add new ones.

## Start from an existing pack

The simplest way is to copy an existing pack folder under a new name and keep its spmsg.txt and file names, replacing only the audio. Listen to each original file to know what it says, then voice the same words. File names are free, but spmsg.txt must point every message ID to the right file.

## Voice the calls

iRacing needs mono, uncompressed WAV files, 16-bit or 8-bit. The SuperClonica engine writes exactly that: 16-bit mono WAV. Hear voices free on their pages with a line of 30 to 100 characters, no account needed. Then install the free engine with python -m pip install superclonica-cpu and voice each call: superclonica --text "Car left." --voice voice.json --lang en --normalize --output car_left.wav. --normalize keeps every call at the same loudness, so “Clear” is as loud as “Car left”. A spotter pack has many short files, so voice them in a loop from a table of file names and texts with the engine’s Python API.

## Turn it on in the sim

Launch iRacing, open Options, go to the Sound tab and choose your pack under Voice Pack, then restart the sim. You can keep several packs installed, but only one is active at a time. Test it in a practice session with AI cars around you and fix any call that sounds too slow: spotter calls must be short, so trim long phrases rather than speeding the voice up a lot.

## Pick a voice that cuts through

In traffic, a clear, mid-pitched voice is easier to hear over engines than a deep, soft one. Popular choices are a calm female spotter, a radio-style announcer or your own voice, trained once in the studio from a 5 to 10 second recording. Do not imitate a real spotter, driver or commentator without their consent; character voices in the catalog are fan-made, for personal use.
